Inside The Catholic Church of Our Lady
History

The beautiful little homely chapel Church of Our Lady, set in secluded Old Mill Lane, was opened on 3rd July 1832, just three years after Catholic Emancipation.

The original Catholic mission was established in 1725 and owed much to the local Hussey family of Nash Court who protected and promoted the local Catholic community during the long, dark penal days.

Over the years the church has been extended and modernised but still retains much of its original intimate character.

The tapestries inside The Catholic Church of Our Lady

Special Tapestries

To mark the 150th Anniversary of the church in1982 fine tapestries depicting six West-Country Saints were designed by Marnhull artist Joan Payne and worked by a group of parishioners.

They are to be seen on the reredos of the altar.

Attached to the church is St. Mary's Primary School

The School

Attached to the church is St. Mary's Primary School that is very highly regarded for the excellent academic start it gives young people of all faiths in a friendly and safe rural setting.
